Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The function of this position is the management of the material process through different departments in order to ensure the right material gets to the right place at the right time. This includes working with Production Planning and Control and supporting Manufacturing to ensure proper assessment and resolution of material related shortages.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead, mentor, be first point of contact among Planners for high level issues.
  • Work proactively with Production Planning and Control, Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure material availability in support of production need dates.
  • Support material management in resolution of shortages related to production orders.
  • Ensure that material discrepancies are resolved and corrective actions are taken to rectify future issues.
  • Work cross functionally on material related process improvement projects to ensure our success.
  • Take ownership of material planning issues that arise, including over or under delivery. Responsible to follow up/escalate actions in the event of material shortages that affect production.
  • Seek and recommend solutions to overcome issues arising in order to meet production requirements and address operational risks
  • Manage inventory risk and ensure that contingency plans are in place
  • Ensure that material scheduling strategy and processes are in place and work effectively in order to ensure material supply meets production requirements with minimum stick levels, whilst optimizing costs
  • Carry out oversight of entire material timeline from Engineering to Production
  • Be prepared to carry out supplier visits to timely material deliveries

COMMUNICATION: Internally:
  • Purchasing Planners: ability to help prioritize work and resolve outstanding issues
  • Supply Chain management: provide KPI and group activity status
  • Foremen: to get them the material
  • Shop/ Production/ Trade Managers: to respond to production priorities and report status; daily.
  • Buyers: to ensure they know the priorities and that purchase orders are released expeditiously
  • Planners, Project and Master Schedulers: to understand the plan and to ensure the right material is available to support the plan/schedule; daily
  • Planning and Scheduling Managers and Director of Production Planning & Control: to provide status and elevate key issues; weekly

While performing the duties of this job, the employee's workspace is in a clean and comfortable climate-controlled setting with little to no exposure to the moving equipment, elements, extreme conditions, or risk of injury. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
