Job Summary
Responsible for the 24 hour management of a specific patient care unit/s, service/s, or program/s in settings as designated by the Chief Nursing Officer and/or Director, Patient Care Services. The Nurse Manager directs and supervises the functions and activities of the assigned unit/service/program: Develops, implements and interprets policies; schedules and supervises assigned employees and insures the quality of care provided to patients and families. Responsible for unit based budgetary management and human resource management. Assignment to Nurse Manager I positions is made by the Chief Nursing Officer in collaboration with Human Resources based on the number of Headcount assigned. The Nurse Manager I has an assigned Headcount of 49 or less employees.Accountabilities* Coordinates the delivery of patient care for assigned unit/services and en

* Develops, analyzes, monitors and revises staffing patterns for units and en
sures that sufficient and properly prepared personnel are available to meet pa
tient needs.\u00A0 10%
* Performs a variety of human resource management activities to include:
Interviewing; hiring; evaluating; counseling; coaching; performance planning;
competency assessment and terminating of assigned staff.\u00A0 20%
* In collaboration with the Director of Nursing, plans, develops and monitors the
annual capital, operational and personnel budgets of assigned units and ser
vices. Prepares budget worksheets for approval.\u00A0 10%
* Coaches, directs, supports and evaluates the educational and research active ties for assigned staff.\u00A0 10%
* In collaboration with the Unit Medical Director, develops quality indicators spe
cific to the units' patient population; monitors quality of care using established
benchmarks; and involves unit staff in planning and implementing perfor
mance improvement as appropriate.\u00A0 10%
* Ensures that age appropriate supplies and equipment are available to meet
the needs of populations served by unit/service. Ensures that staff assigned to
unit have education and training to meet the age specific and developmental
needs of the populations served.\u00A0 5%
* Identifies, plans, implements and evaluates various long-term and short-term
projects to meet patient or organizational needs.\u00A0 5%
* Prepares, implements and evaluates unit goals and objectives. Develops, Im-
plements, monitors and evaluates personal performance objectives(including
KRA's) on a yearly basis.\u00A0 5%
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.
Minimum EducationBachelor's degree - Nursing
Minimum Experience3 years - RN experience, including 2 years in appropriate area of nursing
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
Current South Carolina R.N. License (Lawson Code NLRN)
Other Required Experience
Certified in nursing specialty - preferred
Previous Nursing Management/Supervisory experience - preferred
In Lieu of
In lieu of the BSN requirement above, a nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.
