General Summary

Duties include but not limited to tomato paste analysis such as Total solids testing, Brix-NTSS sample preparation, acid/sugar titrations, pH measurements, L a/b color analysis, viscosity measurements (including Ostwald and Bostwick), Howard Mold count and equipment calibration. Will use basic mathematics to run dilutions of concentrated paste for testing at specific solids. Prepare tomato paste library sample and composite bags for storage. Test dice samples prepared by dice technicians on moisture analyzer.

Education/Experience

Seasonal / Temporary - July through October timeframe

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Must speak, read, write and understand the English language. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Must be able to work an 8-hour shift schedule, which may include unscheduled overtime.
Work 7 days a week on assigned shift.
Must have basic laboratory and chemical safety knowledge.
Basic knowledge of microscope operation.
Ability to use a calculator.

Principal Accountabilities

Wear personal protective equipment as specified in the Lab Tech. Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Maintain clean and orderly work area.
Continuously inspect and record the paste samples for compliance with specifications.
Notify lab personnel of any quality observations that do not comply with specifications.
Perform these and other duties as assigned by supervisor/mechanic.

Job Complexity:

Plant safety rules, practices, and procedures.
GMP's, HACCP and SQF Training.
Howard Mold School
Hands on paste chemistry training.

Job Specifications:

Collect and aseptically sample for sterility tomato ingredients on regularly scheduled product inspections.

Work conducted in a safe manner.

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
