Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Dental Assistant to work at the Federal Correctional Institute in Safford, AZ. Dental services will be carried out Monday - Friday (except Federal holidays) 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with an unpaid 30-minute lunch. Each day normally consists of 8 one hour sessions to carry out the needed treatments of the patients.

Job Duties:

  • Assists the Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations

  • Retrieve patient's records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares the patient for attending Dental Officer
  • Assists the Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials and medications
  • Passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates the oral cavity and operates the aspirator
  • Observes the patient's responses and assists the patient for dismissal from the dental clinic
  • Gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments
  • Makes necessary entries on dental treatment records (electronic and paper)
  • Prepares dental treatment room for the next patient
  • Assists in the treatment of emergency cases
  • Other duties as instructed

Qualifications:

  • Must have specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Assistant School.

  • Training must include Dental Radiology and Radiology Safety
  • Have at least 2 years of dental assisting experience

  • CPR card through the Red Cross or American Heart Association

  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) is a plus
  • Up to on all vaccinations (no Covid vaccine is required)

Attire:

Proper and professional attire must be worn at all times. Scrub uniforms must be a solid color with the exception of the colors khaki, cream, red, black and brown.
